John Digweed - Renaissance Presents Tranistions 3 ($12.99) [Legendary DJ/Producer John Digweed returns with his third installment in the popular DJ album mix series, Transitions. Showcasing everything that John Digweed is known for; upfront tracks, seamless mixing and choice selections of the newest hard to find remixes, tracks and edits, Transitions 3 follows the lofty standards set by the previous two installments. With its name taken from Digweed's internationally syndicated radio show, Transitions 3 features tracks and remixes from Sasha, Adam Freeland, Josh Wink, Gui Boratto, Superpitcher and more, all specially edited and re-shaped by Digweed for the mix. Includes a bonus disc featuring Digweed and Muir's extended 25 minute mix of 'Gridlock' and exclusive video footage of Digweed's recent Mayan gig in Los Angeles. ]

Steve Earle - Washington Square Serenade ($12.99) [The title and opening songs of Washington Square Serenade are as much a celebration of New York City--Steve Earle's newly adopted home--as his breakthrough Guitar Town was an evocation of his previous home in Nashville. In fact, the opening 'Tennessee Blues,' with its acoustic guitar over a digital rhythm loop, bids 'goodbye to Guitar Town,' as he leaves with 'a redhead by my side.' That would be wife Allison Moorer, who harmonizes beautifully with her husband on 'Days Aren't Long Enough,' written by the two; provides background vocals elsewhere; and plainly inspires 'Sparkle and Shine' and the bittersweet 'Come Home to Me,' two of the album's loveliest songs. The result is a new chapter in Earle's career, an album unlike any he's previously recorded, produced by John King of the Dust Brothers (Beck, Beastie Boys). While the raw, raging blues of 'Red Is the Color' ranks with Earle's most powerful music, 'Satellite Radio' could well be the slightest (as well as perhaps a plug for Earle's own radio show), but the artist's willingness to take chances attests to a restless creativity that refuses to be corralled.]

Melissa Etheridge - Awakening ($11.99) [Melissa will release her 9th studio album, THE AWAKENING. It has been described as a collection of powerful and playful yet confessional and engaging songs that are personal as well as universal. THE AWAKENING was co-produced with David Cole and recorded with her band: bassist Mark Browne, drummer Mauricio Fritz Lewak, and guitarist Philip Sayce. Etheridge acknowledges that her 2004 breast cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment brought new perspective to her life and achievements and freed her to be so open on this album. ]

Iron & Wine - Shepherds Dog ($11.99) [On The Shepherd's Dog this integration is complete. Sam Beam has confessed to finding spiritual inspiration in Tom Waits' pice de rsistance, Swordfishtrombones, an album with which Waits upended his previous strategies and forged a new musical language for himself. Recorded by Sam with the assistance of longtime producer Brian Deck and engineer Colin Studebaker, The Shepherd's Dog succeeds in accomplishing a similar cathartic recasting of the artist's intentions. The arrangements here are kaleidoscopic and rich. 'White Tooth Man' rocks with a desperate, menacing intensity while 'Boy with a Coin', the album's first single, is darkly playful with a handclap hook tumbling under its cascading melody. The whole album breathes. Its seductive rhythms percolate and undulate, from the Psych-Bhangra-redux of 'Pagan Angel and a Borrowed Car' to the album's last dance a waltz 'Flightless Bird, American Mouth'. Compositionally, it is Iron and Wine's most ambitious and accomplished recording to date. It s also the most satisfying. ]

Mark Knopfler - Kill to Get Crimson ($12.99) [Mark Knopfler remains an iconic figure in popular music, his graceful guitar playing equaled only by his genial baritone and a novelist's ability to create distinct characters and themes in his songs. His fifth solo album since he pulled the plug on the band in 1995, Crimson reflects on a torrent of narratives, from the gracefully aging spouse in the flute-powered ballad 'The Scaffolder's Wife' to the valiant down-and-outer in the Scottish folk song 'Heart Full of Holes.' Employing accordions, fiddles, and horns as majestic accompaniment, Knopfler drifts into the Celtic-tinged melodies of his past, explicitly in the whiskey-soaked singalong 'Secondary Waltz,' the busker's saga 'Madame Geneva's,' and 'The Fish and the Bird,' with its vagabond pensiveness. Clocking in at just under an hour, the album--without any page-turning epic--plays instead like an anthology of written works, every personification crisp in definition, every story exquisitely told.]

Matt Pond Pa - Last Light ($9.99) [Over the course of six acclaimed albums, Matt Pond has composed a world of poetic characters and bittersweet melodies. Each release presents a new emotional arc, drawing fans in closer with personal lyrics and endearing hooks. 'Last Light' offers the most dynamic glimpse of this world yet. Set against Matt's pastoral imagery, this collection of songs follows a path from hopeless longing to the hope of new love - exploring all the delicate twists, turns, rifts, and revelations in between. ]

Joni Mitchell - Shine ($13.99) [Joni Mitchell is generally considered to be the single most important female singer-songwriter of the 20th Century. Her new CD features 10 great new songs that resonate on the level of some of her all-time classic work, with much of the material inspired by Jonis passion to save the environment. Her lyrics on the subject are truly inspiring. Mitchell's songwriting shines brightest at such singularly poignant moments where specificity of images meets the vagaries of the instrumental arrangements, and, in the end, these and other highlights ('Bad Dreams,' 'Night of the Iguana') definitively carry the torch.]
