The entire catalog of the following artist will be on sale through next Tuesday (7/5/2005).
Avenged Sevenfold - City Of Evil ($11.99) [Shattering preconceptions of punk and metal, Avenged Sevenfold blazes a bold new path with its debut major label album, City of Evil. Fusing punk with melody, metal intensity with an adventurous spirit, the drama and darkness of A7X moves effortlessly from his powerful vocal punch to thick cascading melodies, from loud and fast to epic. Influenced by everyone from Pantera, Metallica and Iron Maiden to Bad Religion, Misfits, Guns 'N Roses, prog-metal and experimental rock, Avenged Sevenfold seeks its own musical vengeance with City of Evil. ] Black Eyed Peas - Monkey business ($11.99) [As with their last hit, Elephunk, Black Eyed Peas' new disc Monkey Business is a joyful cross-genre journey with musical props to hip-hop, rock, folk, funk, and pop. The reason the Black Eyed Peas have audience appeal that crosses over many styles is because the band members are such obvious fans of diverse music. Nowhere is this more apparent than on Monkey Businesss high-profile guest list] Clutch - Robot Hive: Exodus ($11.99) ['Robot Hive/Exodus' may well be the most unexpected release in Clutch's career. Their style has changed often over the last 14 years, but it's never been this drastic. Here is a band wearing their influences on their sleeve, letting 70s rock, blues, and maybe even gospel play a bigger part in their sound than ever before.] Eno Brian - Another Day On Earth ($13.99) [Another Day on Earth is an ambient song cycle that is full of yearning and a mood that Brian Eno has called 'brave and resigned.' Even in song, Eno is a master of ambience, creating detailed soundworlds and lyrics that don't so much make sense as create a feeling. It's taken him 15 years to create a new vocal album, and the songs span that time, with the welcome reprise of 'Under,' a devastatingly beautiful hymn of loss and redemption that dates back to 1991's aborted, unreleased My Squelchy Life album. It's turned up before on the Cool World soundtrack and Eno Box II: Vocals. ] Foo Fighters - In Your Honor ($14.99) [Its likely that a decade after its debut record this band now has fans who might ask, 'You mean Dave Grohl was in a band before the Foo Fighters?' But they, or any Foo followers who pine for the increasingly refined vocals and polished pop-punk uniformity of the first four albums, will swallow this one whole--or at least half. For as much as vocalist/bandleader Grohl and Co. mix a similar concoction on the 20-song double CD, they manage to agitate the formula ever so slightly. Disc one follows the Foos classic sonic blueprint: lip-smacking melodies and enigmatic lyrics, double-barrel guitars and drums that attack. But songs take a gentle turn on the second CD, showcasing Grohls underrated vocals amidst a high-energy ensemble of acoustic guitars, piano and mandolin (by studio guest John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin). ] Gorillaz - Demon Days ($13.99) [A side project doesnt usually hit gold, especially when said project is a quirky virtual collective fronted by cartoon characters. But the first, self-titled album by Gorillaz--the brainchild of illustrator Jamie Hewlett and Blur frontman Damon Albarn--actually hit platinum and turned into a surprise worldwide hit. Naturally expectations were a lot higher for Gorillaz's sophomore effort, but Demon Days actually is even better than its predecessor. With producer Dan 'the Automator' Nakamura gone, Albarn, a.k.a. 2D, has paired up with DJ Danger Mouse (responsible for the infamous Grey Album that illegally mixed the Beatles and Jay-Z) to steer the musical ship, while a whole new slew of guests enlivens the proceedings. Albarn has described Demon Days as being darker, but there's a real kooky dance-party vibe coursing through the CD.] Indigo Girls - Rarities ($12.99) [Now comes more suggestion of that in Rarities, an album made up of leftovers, odds and ends, demos, other previously unreleased material, and contributions to side albums. The good news is that there is much here to enjoy, all of it wrapped in the Girls' trademark corduroy-and-silk harmonies. Their demo version of 'Ghost' is fraught with fevered longing, a remix of 'Shed Your Skin' delights with its swirling, hypnotic soundscape, and the cameos by Michael Stipe ('I'll Give You My Skin') and Ani DiFranco ('Ramblin' Round') resonate with artistry and star power.] Offspring - Greatest Hits ($12.99) [Apparently the Offspring could keep 'em separated no longer. Greatest Hits gathers every one of the band's modern rock radio warhorses into one place. It also tacks on a new song called 'Can't Repeat', which despite its name is a repeat of the 1998 single 'Kids Aren't Alright. After the new opener the set moves chronologically, so its songs are like bullet points on a timeline of radio and MTV in the 1990s. ] Prine John - Fair & Square ($11.99) [John Prine takes his own sweet time dancing with his muse -- and truly writes what's in his soul. So if it takes him a little longer to write the songs that capture moments and reveal the gently folded human truths that bind us all together. It's always worth the wait. Now, nearly nine years since the release of his Grammy-nominated Lost Dogs & Mixed Blessings, the iconic American writer has put the finishing touches on his latest offering, appropriately titled, Fair & Square. 'It was just time,' says Prine in his always understated way. 'I had a bunch of songs. I'd started recording them, and it turns out, I liked them pretty well. So, now, I get to get them all just the way I like them - and then I get to let them go out to meet the world.' ] White Stripes - Get behind me Satan ($12.99) [Their fifth album, Get Behind Me Satan is the strangest and least focused effort by these unlikely garage rock superstars to date. It's also their finest, an Exile on Main Street-ish mish-mash where the sum is greater than the parts. In a market increasingly driven by singles and downloads, it's nice to be reminded how exciting an album can be, especially one where you really don't know what to expect next. There are a lot fewer pounding guitars on this album. They've largely been replaced by pounding pianos.]
