Ashes & Fire also features guest turns from Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench as well as Norah Jones who contributes piano and backing vocals on several tracks, including the lilting, acoustic overtures of 'Come Home,' the sumptuous ballad 'Save Me' and the heartfelt 'Kindness.

The Swedish death metal group doesnt let up much in terms of insanely fast tempos, chugging guitars, and demonic vocals, and rhythmically Aeon is a musical dynamo. Jason AldeanMy Kinda PartyReleased Tuesday, November 02, 2010
Price: $12.99 (sale priced)Country
There s a lot about the singer that's become familiar during his five years as a country hitmaker, after all, he has spent more weeks at number one on the radio than any other country artists in the last 12 months. But none of what he does comes out quite like anyone else. The blues-tinges licks at the ends of his phrases - there's a ring of familiarity about them, but you can't really link them to any other artists. The smokey guitar riffs that have become a signature - they're built on sounds that have come before, but they don't really belong to anyone else in the country genre, either. The small-town themes that pervade many of his songs - that's all been done before, but not quite with the unwavering honesty that Aldean applies to the subject.

No replacements. No substitutions. So after taking a more than respectful break to mourn the loss of their brother and band mate-to heal and explore music individually-the surviving members of Alice In Chains-Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez-gradually began to make music again.

Condon takes on The Rip Tide, an album with the most introspective and memorable songs of his young career. Recorded in Upstate New York, Brooklyn and, of course, Condon's hometowns of Albuquerque and Santa Fe, The Rip Tide marks a distinct leaping-off point for Beirut. Beginning life as small melodies conceived on piano or ukulele, the songs were built upon by the entire band in the studio before Condon's paring down and retrofitting. The results sound like they were recorded in a single session, with exciting rhythms matching the upbeat horns and contrasting the mournful strings. No direct geographical affiliation was exhumed; rather, the style that emerges belongs uniquely and distinctly to Beirut-one that has been hinted at all along.

Joe BonamassaBlack RockReleased Tuesday, March 23, 2010
Price: $16.99Blues
Joe signed up Blues legend B.B. King for a duet on his new album. The song they perform together is a rendition of the Willie Nelson-penned song, Night Life, which appeared on King s 1967 album BLUES IS KING. Shirley says about the experience, This is a rollicking Stonesy-vibe version of the Willie Nelson song on which B.B. King duets with Joe, both vocally and on his famous Lucille guitar. What a joy and an honor to work with the legend who is possibly the pivot point and unifying musician between Blues and Rock. Other tracks appearing on BLACK ROCK include Jeff Beck s Spanish Boots, Leonard Cohen s poetic Bird On A Wire, Otis Rush's Three Times A Fool, Bobby Parker's Steal Your Heart Away, Blind Boy Fuller's Baby, You Gotta Change Your Mind, John Hiatt's I Know A Place, and James Clark's Look Over Yonders Wall, as well as the originals When The Fire Hits The Sea, Quarryman's Lament, Wandering Earth, Athens To Athens and Blue and Evil.

Bottle RocketsLean ForwardReleased Tuesday, August 11, 2009
Price: $14.99Rock & Pop
Lean Forward continues the Rockets' creative resurgence ignited by 2006's Zoysia. Reunited with producer Eric 'Roscoe' Ambel, the Bottle Rockets do what no other band does better--look into the hearts and minds and faces of the dying small towns in America and crafts populist anthems with the sympathetic eye of Woody Guthrie and sonic stomp of Crazy Horse. They are songs that demand the windows be rolled down and the volume turned up. And with the hooks, you'll wonder how they make such problems sound so good!

The pairing down of the band's massive personnel list for the first time proved extremely fruitful; they created spacious songs written as a band by a band, resulting in more cohesive, melody-driven compositions than previous BSS output. Recording both in Toronto and Chicago, and working with producer John McEntire - a musical hero for many of the band's members - they found a fresh perspective on their own sound.

Vince Gill and Tim O'Brien take care of the country and bluegrass quotient, Linda Ronstadt puts in a rare appearance on a soulful Brook Benton ballad, Los Lobos contribute a Mexican-flavored waltz, Keb' Mo' brings the blues, and the hitmaking Butcher Brothers,

Greg BrownFreak FlagReleased Tuesday, May 24, 2011
Price: $16.99Folk
As the result of a fateful lighting strike on the studio where he was working, Brown lost the recordings that were to comprise his next album. For most artists, losing that much material would have been a creatively scarring and demoralizing experience. For Greg, it was just an excuse to turn inward once again, and write more songs. Of the songs that came to comprise his 24th album Freak Flag, the title track is all that remains of that ill-fated lost original album. Greg wrote ten new songs, moving on to record them at Memphis, Tennessee's legendary Ardent Studios. This time there were no storms, but creative lightning did strike again, resulting in what many have called Greg's best album.

'You Get What You Give' features a genre-defying collection of songs that the band has been testing on the road over the past year. Praised for the ability to blend 'down-home country with bits of reggae, bluegrass and rock to create a high-quality musical stew' (USA Today), front man Zac Brown notes that the new album 'is representative of where we are right now. It combines elements of our southern rock and country roots, but also stays true to our jam-band style musicianship from the live show.' 'You Get What You Give' is the follow up to the band's double platinum-certified, major label debut 'The Foundation'

Budos Band's third full-length studio effort was conceived during weekly, beer-fueled Staten Island writing sessions as well as more than 150 live gigs over the last two years and recorded during a 48 hour period in January 2010. If the menacing album art, which features a cobra primed for the attack, is any indication of the music itself, we can expect an all out assault of the senses, with a tendency towards the venomous and psychedelic. 'The end result,' as Pitchforkmedia states, 'is something so hip it could kill you in large doses 'in the right doses it just plain kills.'

Burlap to Cashmere redefined folk rock in the 90s through its unique melding of flamenco and Mediterranean influences crossed with poetically introspective lyrics, yet the band bowed out in 2001 after years of nonstop touring alongside some of the biggest acts in the business took its toll. A decade after its split, the band that paved the way for The Avett Borthers and Mumford & Sons singer/guitarist/songwriter Steven Delopoulos, guitarist John Philippidis and drummer Theodore Pagano have reunited, returning with a beautiful, stripped-down new sound.

BushSea of MemoriesReleased Tuesday, September 13, 2011
Price: $17.99Rock & Pop
THE SEA OF MEMORIES captures the electricity and trademark intensity of classic Bush delivered in a setting that is fresh and alive. Songs like The Sound of Winter, Heart of the Matter and All Night Doctors are propelled by heavy guitar and hypnotic beats, simple song structures and sublime textures. About the album, Rossdale says, When making music, you have a choice to repeat what you ve done or move on. It wouldve been safe to just rework (1994s debut album) Sixteen Stone over and over, but what kind of life would that be? When youre driving down the road, youre focused on whats in front of you; you don t really think to keep checking in your rear view mirror. I like the idea of art changing, developing and morphing.

Johnny CashAmerican VI: Ain't No GraveReleased Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Price: $11.99Country
American VI is deeply elegiac and spiritual, with each song its own piece of the puzzle of life's mysteries and challenges - the pursuit of salvation, the importance of friendships, the dream of peace, the power of faith, and the joys and adversities that entail simple survival. It is an achingly personal and intimate statement, as, from the end of the line, Johnny Cash looks back on a most extraordinary life.

Rosanne CashListReleased Tuesday, October 06, 2009
Price: $16.99Country
2009 album from Johnny Cash's enormously talented singing/songwriting daughter. The List features Rosanne's contemporary interpretations of songs from a list of essential Country songs passed on to her by her legendary father. Featuring duet partners Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Rufus Wainwright, and Jeff Tweedy. Cash does a pretty incredible job on Hank Snow's 'I'm Moving On' - and it might be the best piece on the disk. Dylan's 'Girl From the North Country' (great string bass line throughout the song) is well done too. She does a decent job on '500 Miles'. It is poignant enough, but it doesn't convey the emotion that it did when she did it live or even when Peter, Paul & Mary or Bobby Bare recorded it.

Tommy CastroHard BelieverReleased Tuesday, August 11, 2009
Price: $16.99Blues
The album is anchored by Castro's soul-baring songs, filled with profound emotion and fueled by Castro's powerful vocals and propulsive rhythms. 'If there's no groove there,' Castro told Guitar Player, 'I can't sink my teeth into it.' On Hard Believer, there are plenty of satisfying grooves to bite down on. But what really drives the songs home is Castro's telepathic interaction with his band. The group operates as a single engine, firing on all cylinders, sometimes pushing the pedal to the floor, other times slowing things down for a simmering ballad.

Chickenfoot the illustrious, virtuosic supergroup formed by singing legend Sammy Hagar, guitar god Joe Satriani, and the renowned rhythm section of bassist Michael Anthony and drummer Chad Smith approached the initial stages of recording their new album, Chickenfoot III, with supreme confidence and a firm sense of intention. They, of course, had good reasons to feel cocky: There were the high-octane, hook-o-rama singles, Oh Yeah, Sexy Little Thing and My Kinda Girl. Then there were the riveting live shows, starting with a sold-out-within-seconds Road Test run of clubs and ending a year later with a sold-out-within-seconds world tour of large halls. Price: $14.99Rock & Pop
The Dirty Heads comfortably combine hip-hop and reggae with somewhat lesser dollops of conventional rock songwriting and arrangements on Any Port in a Storm. While those are the three main styles the group blend, they don't always use all three idioms in the same song, some tracks coming close to being straight hip-hop, reggae, and/or rock. Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan are even referenced in 'Believe.' It's an unusual mixture, but more clever than exciting, without standout tunes or lyrics.

Flaming LipsEmbryonicReleased Tuesday, October 13, 2009
Price: $13.99Rock & Pop
'Embryonic' is the sound of the Flaming Lips returning to what garnered them fame in the first place. I have always respected the Flaming Lips for dedicating themselves to exploring sound at the detriment of everything else, even it means making a song that is downright difficult to listen to. It's not about doing what's safe for the Lips, it's about shaking things up.

Fleck Bela & FlecktonesRocket ScienceReleased Tuesday, May 24, 2011
Price: $15.99Jazz
Rocket Science marks the first recording by the first fab four Flecktones in almost two decades, with pianist/harmonica player Howard Levy back in the fold alongside Fleck, bassist Victor Wooten, and percussionist/ drumitarist Roy Futureman Wooten. Far from being a wistful trip back in time, the album sees the Grammy Award-winning quartet creating some of the most forward thinking music of their long, storied career. While all manner of genres come into play from classical and jazz to bluegrass and African music to electric blues and Eastern European folk dances the result is an impossible to pigeonhole sound all their own, a meeting of musical minds that remains, as ever, utterly indescribable. Simply put, it is The Flecktones, the music made only when these four individuals come together.

Fleet FoxesHelplessness BluesReleased Tuesday, May 03, 2011
Price: $10.99 (sale priced)Rock & Pop
Helplessness Blues sees Fleet Foxes heighten and extend themselves, adding instrumentation (clarinet, the music box, pedal steel guitar, lap steel guitar, Tibetan singing bowls, vibraphone, etc., along with more traditional band instrumentation), with a focus on clear, direct lyrics, and an emphasis on group vocal harmonies. We have it on good authority that the album is called Helplessness Blues for at least a couple of reasons. One, it's kind of a funny title. Secondly, one of the prevailing themes of the album is the struggle between who you are and who you want to be or who you want to end up, and how sometimes you are the only thing getting in the way of that.

Sallie Ford & the Sound OutsideDirty Radio (Dig)Released Tuesday, May 24, 2011
Price: $12.99Rock & Pop
Fueled by Sallies love of The Beatles, Cat Power and Tom Waits, they are a rock-a-billy hybrid with elements of folk, punk, blues, and jazz. Most noticeable at first are Fords quirky vocals, but after a few listens, an appreciation builds for the nuances of the band. And I would be remiss if I didnt pay special attention to The Sound Outside. Ford Tennis (drum), Tyler Tornfelt (upright bass), and Jeffrey Munger (guitar) provide an excellent backbone. This isnt some young girl singing lighthearted candy pop tunes or whiny love tracks. Shes a woman with a powerful voice that requires a band that challenges her and propels her forward.

The rhythms of hip-hop provide a placemat for nervously melodic splendor and a melting pot of genres. What are we to call this compellingly oddball mlange of rock, rap, jazz, reggae, and other influences, all in sway to some of the most mirthfully self-conscious streams of consciousness you ve ever heard? We could call it attention-deficit-disorder rock. Or maybe we should just call it Forrest Day, the Bay-area bandleader who s releasing his self-titled full-length debut on the Ninth Street Opus label.

'For a long time I'd had the dream of making a trio with Eyvind Kang and Rudy Royston. We've known each other for years and worked together in many situations. The idea came about as a result of the power and strength of the connection that happens when we play music together. It wasn't about the instruments, it was about the people. We played our first gig on June 7, 2008 in Eugene, Oregon and from the first note, it was working. Each time we get together the music feels new.....and old. Backwards and forwards. Up and down. Anything is possible. I can't wait to hear what happens next. Of course, the next thing on my mind was wishing, hoping we could make an album together of new music.

I was adopted shortly thereafter but left my adopted family at fifteen. I wandered for years looking for, but never quite finding a place that felt like home. Price: $17.99Folk
Eliza Gilkyson delivers the album of her career with Roses at the End of Time. The ten songs of Roses at the End of Time run the full spectrum of emotions and issues. Whether it's in socio-political anthems like the soulful, slithering 'Slouching Towards Bethlehem' or moody ballads like 'Blue Moon Night' and 'Belle of the Ball,' a collection of fragmented memories of her mother, Eliza intermingles the political with the personal, with stinging edge and heart-aching elegance.

Sharon Jones / Dap-KingsI Learned the Hard WayReleased Tuesday, April 06, 2010
Price: $15.99Soul - Funk - R & B
Sharons raw power, rhythmic swagger, moaning soulfulness, and melodic command set her firmly alongside Tina Turner, James Brown, Mavis Staples, and Aretha as a fixture in the canon of soul music. From the lush Philly-Soul fanfare that ushers in The Game Gets Old at the top of the record, to the stripped down Sam Cooke-style Mama Dont Like My Man at the tail, the Dap-Kings dance seamlessly through both the most crafted and simple arrangements with subtlety and discipline. I Learned the Hard Way is the Daptone Sound at its best.

KillsBlood PressuresReleased Tuesday, April 05, 2011
Price: $12.99Rock & Pop
Blood Pressures, the highly anticipated follow-up to their critically acclaimed third album, Midnight Boom. This album keeps their basic sound intact searing guitars, driving rhythms and sexually charged lyrical savvy. The 11 tracks on Blood Pressures find The Kills embracing a fuller sound; there is heavier instrumentation and layered, huge-sounding harmonies with Jamie and Alison uniting in their trademark singsong vocal style over tom heavy primitive beats.

King Crimson ProjekctScarcity of MiraclesReleased Tuesday, June 28, 2011
Price: $16.99Rock & Pop
When Fripp (King Crimson founder and guitarist) and Jakszyk (Level 42) got together in February 2009 neither expected that their initial sessions of guitar-only improvisations would result in a full-blown album, or that it would ultimately be deemed to be a King Crimson ProjeKct. As the material from those first sessions developed, it was obviously becoming much wider in scope and scale. The arrival of sax player and former King Crimson member, Collins, added further colour and texture to the emerging songs. The line-up was completed with the addition of bassist Levin and Porcupine Tree's drummer, Harrison (both members of the 2008 incarnation of King Crimson), adding their parts to the material in their respective studios.

Kings of ConvenienceDeclaration of DependenceReleased Tuesday, October 20, 2009
Price: $15.99Rock & Pop
Declaration of Dependence is the story of two people living two very different lives sensing that they are immensely more powerful together than apart. In that sense it is the most adult, the most mature record Kings of Convenience have ever made. That it is their most gripping, their most revealing is, if anything, just a by-product of that honesty and their endeavor. 'Erlend is a very stubborn individual with extreme belief in his own ideas,' says Erik of his partner. 'He's very free and creative and his access to unusual and fresh ideas is very good. I find that quite unique. For some reason they are very similar to my ideas on music.

Price: $16.99Bluegrass
A truly breathtaking collection of 11 exquisite songs, Paper Airplane is Alison Krauss' 14th album. Part of Alison Krauss' incontestable talent is how effortlessly she bridges the gap between roots music and country, rock and pop. A highly sought-after collaborator, Krauss has worked with some of the biggest names in popular music, including James Taylor, Phish, Dolly Parton, Yo Yo Ma & Bonnie Raitt. Since signing with Rounder Records at the age of 14 in 1985 Krauss has sold in excess of 12 million albums and garnered 26 Grammy Awards, the most for any female and the third most of any recording artist in Grammy history.

Lenny KravitzBlack & White AmericaReleased Tuesday, August 30, 2011
Price: $16.99Rock & Pop
Black and White America was written in reaction to a documentary Kravitz saw about racism in the post-Obama United States. Amidst the defiant lyrics, the songwriter references his own family history, and the experiences of his parents as an interracial couple in the 1960s. Though the sonic emphasis of Black and White America may land squarely on the funk, the force behind such guitar-driven smashes as 'Fly Away' and 'Are You Gonna Go My Way' hasn't turned his back on rock. Songs like 'Rock Star City Life,' and the first single, 'Stand,' give the album a healthy dose of crunching riffs.

Kris KristoffersonCloser to the Bone (Dig)Released Tuesday, September 29, 2009
Price: $16.99Country
Kristofferson says of the new album, I like the intimacy of the new album. It has a general mood of reflecting on where we all are at this end of life. Closer To The Bone is a deftly observed, honestly executed work about love, separation, loss, and mortality. The subject matter ranges from the musician s family ( From Here to Forever, The Wonder ) to Kristofferson s late friend Johnny Cash ( Good Morning John ).

KrokusHoodooReleased Tuesday, May 25, 2010
Price: $13.99Rock & Pop
This latest disc has the old band reunited and I must say I am pleasantly surprised. Vocalist Marc Storace is top notch, hauntingly similar to Bon Scott at various spots...which is a good thing. The first track, Drive it in, speaks of sex and rock n roll...great combo. Hoodoo Woman rocks leading into the classic Born to be Wild which they do very well. Rock n Roll Handshake has a cool guitar rhythm. The entire disc just sounds great and Storace's voice is in fine form.

Fela KutiAfrica for AfricaReleased Tuesday, April 12, 2011
Price: $14.99Africa
On his new album, Africa for Africa, Femi articulates a raw and forceful call to the long tradition of Afrobeat. Africa for Africa is in several ways a return to Femi's roots. He recorded the album in the same studio where he produced his first recordings with his father and his breakthrough solo album, Shoki Shoki. This recording is deliberately less produced than its predecessor, Day by Day, which was released to acclaim, including a Grammy nomination, in 2009. Africa for Africa aims to present Afrobeat in its rough, purest form. Femi has always performed music that is socially conscious, and he continues to develop his activist voice on the new album.

Lady AntebellumOwn the NightReleased Tuesday, September 13, 2011
Price: $16.99Country
'One of our favorite songs on the new record is called `We Owned The Night,' which is about a special once-in-a-lifetime moment, and we thought that naming the album around that same sentiment was really appropriate,' says Hillary Scott.Own The Night follows the band's GRAMMY winning sophomore album Need You Now. Since its release in January 2010, the album has sold over five million copies across the globe, spawned three multi-week #1 hits, taken home five GRAMMY Awards and scored over a dozen other award show trophies. With the success of 'Just A Kiss' already producing massive momentum for Lady Antebellum's highly anticipated release, the trio is sure to own the night

LadytronBest of 00-10Released Tuesday, March 29, 2011
Price: $12.99Techno
Those albums, surveyed on the career-spanning Best of Ladytron: 00-10, reflect the quartet s deftly executed (and delightfully subversive) dualities: primordial grooves vs. lushly layered synths; sanguine melodies vs. shimmering atmospherics; and art-house detachment vs. the poignant narratives delivered by dueling sirens Marnie and Aroyo. Ladytron has created a body of work that reveals a fresh creative arc and, as time has told, served as a reference point for a current crop of artists such as Lady Gaga, Goldfrapp, La Roux and Crystal Castles.

LadytronGravity the SeducerReleased Tuesday, September 13, 2011
Price: $12.99Techno
Gravity the Seducer is more of a jump than the last album - more ethereal & melodic, a touch more abstract in places - baroque 'n' roll. Ladytron recorded the album in Kent's countryside, with co-producer Barny Barnicott (Artic Monkeys, Kasabian, Editors) at the helm. So its testimony to their craft to say that Gravity The Seducer, the fifth album from the electro-pop provocateurs, is vintage Ladytron

Aaron LewisTown LineReleased Tuesday, March 01, 2011
Price: $8.99Country
'These songs are country in the sense of classic Americana', says Staind frontman Aaron Lewis of the music on his debut solo release, Town Line. 'They're simple, understandable, and founded on the quality of the songwriting. If you put a country accompaniment to any of the songs that I've written over the years on my acoustic, all of them would work as country tunes. I always write and play the same way. The only difference here is the accompaniment.' And country music comes naturally for Aaron Lewis. In fact, the Staind frontman never strayed very far from country. It's something that he grew up with. It's something that he comes back to. It's something that inspires him. It's something that's in his blood.

MadnessLiberty of Norton FolgateReleased Tuesday, September 29, 2009
Price: $16.99Ska
Despite being enamored with ska s Jamaican skank, Madness never forgot their working-class British roots. And the band s first album of new material in a decade owes a greater debt to the Kinks than to Prince Buster. London landmarks (the Hippodrome, Marks & Spencer) add sharp details to memories of a soured relationship on the piano-and-organ-led ''Sugar and Spice.'' The similarly wistful ''Forever Young'' weaves horn lines over minor-key piano plaints and a loping backbeat. It all looks backward unabashedly -- fitting for a band formed 30-plus years ago -- but no less resonant.

Magnetic FieldsRealismReleased Tuesday, January 26, 2010
Price: $16.99Rock & Pop
Realism, is the flipside to the industrial pop of Distortion, the quartet's brilliant 2008 homage to, of all things, the clangorous sound of the Jesus and Mary Chain. While Distortion was recorded quickly and noisily in the stairwells and rooms of the New York City apartment building to which singer-songwriter-bandleader Stephen Merritt was about to bid adieu for California, Realism was cut in the distortion-free environs of a Los Angeles studio, and its sound is as pristine as a plein-air painting.

MGMT find kindred spirits in Muse and Mew by dressing their melodies in the fanciful trappings of 1970s British prog, but unlike their contemporaries the duo also weaves in lessons from disco, new-wave synth-pop, and early 90s Britpop. The understanding that youthful innocence is a potent force-- a theme first established in 'Time to Pretend'-- continues throughout the record. Instead of the 'Knights of Cydonia', though, MGMT fights 'Weekend Wars', ostensibly an ode to the fictionalized childhood battles that treat backyards as independent colonies in need of conquering.

While listening to filmmaker David Lynch speak at the BAFTA Awards in February 2008, Moby had an epiphany. Lynch's message- creativity for its own sake is a beautiful, wonderful thing- was a simple one, but it hit Moby with the force of the Zen master's cane. 'At that moment, I decided to just make records that were more personal,' says Moby, 'maybe more experimental, and a little more challenging, maybe not as easy to like, but things that I found to be artistically and creatively more satifying. That was the idea behind making the new album.'

Peter MurphyNinthReleased Tuesday, June 07, 2011
Price: $12.99Rock & Pop
There s a sophisticated energy and psychic urgency to tracks like 'Seesaw Sway,' 'Slowdown' and 'Memory Go.' Equally exciting are moments like 'Velocity Bird,' where Murphy gets his swagger on in the same wild kingdom where Iggy Pop s 'streetwalking cheetah' prowled; the rocking 'Peace To Each,' where the singer ramps up his sinister quotient a few notches; the slow grooving head-nodder 'Uneven & Brittle,' and the brooding, atmospheric noir of 'Secret Silk Society.' On the convex, Ninth also features moments of warm poignancy, like the lover-comforting 'Never Fall Out' and the melancholy closing track, 'Crme de la Crme.' But it s the album s first single, 'I Spit Roses,' that reconciles Murphy s melodic sophistication with his resignation toward the fate of Bauhaus

And it just felt a lot like it did when we were ready.

SleepingBig DeepReleased Tuesday, September 28, 2010
Price: $13.99Rock & Pop
The Sleeping do not submit to genre trends on The Big Deep, instead focusing more on texture and atmosphere, making them more difficult to compartmentalize. In addition to a greater reliance on Chris Evans electronics, there is little outright screaming from Doug Robinson here. In fact, as the album progresses, Robinsons distinctively raspy vocals fade into the background a little, allowing the bands superior musicianship a chance to impress.

Son VoltAmerican Central DustReleased Tuesday, July 07, 2009
Price: $15.99Rock & Pop
Jay Farrar has delivered what may be his finest work yet, American Central Dust. The new album exhilaratingly carries on the tradition of the Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Little Feat circa Sailin' Shoes, the Rolling Stones of Exile on Main Street and early R.E.M., with standouts like the exceptional 'Down to the Wire,' 'Dynamite' and 'No Turning Back.' An epic lament for the heartland, American Central Dust is populated with readily recognizable characters, the most hopeful of them searching for love against a backdrop of rusted road signs and abandoned factories. Rarely does a musical work so powerfully capture the zeitgeist of its historical moment while also honoring the traditions of rock & roll with such rawboned grace
